Common Electrical Panel Questions

What's the difference between a transfer switch and an interlock?

A transfer switch isolates selected circuits from utility power during generator use. An interlock works within your existing panel to safely prevent backfeeding. We'll recommend the right option based on your panel and power needs.

Can a generator power my whole house?

Most portable generators are designed to power essential circuits only-like a furnace, sump pump, refrigerator, or well pump.  We'll help you determine what your generator can safely support.

Do I need a permit for generator hookup installation?

In most cases, yes. Generator connection equipment must be installed to electrical code. We handle installations properly and ensure everything is compliant.

Is it safe to plug a generator into an outlet?

No. Backfeeding through a dryer outlet or receptacle is dangerous and illegal. Proper inlet boxes and transfer equipment are required for safe operation.
